I was in Dubai in February for a training and thereafter i extended my stay to explore as much as possible within the short time i had. Had the chance to fly Emirates, unfortunately wasn’t the 380!!
After almost 7 hours, started to get some view of Dubai….was sooo sandy and white, got me frightened on the first look. check out the shots below…
Ahhh then it got better….phewww
Touched down at Dubai International Airport and was whisked away by hotel transfer service. Took nearly an hour to reach the hotel. On the way, the driver was kind enough to explain about the landmarks along the way to the hotel. The hotel was located just a stroll away to the beach of the Arabian Gulf. I must say i felt a little suffocated with the sights of the amount of tall concrete building i saw on the stretch, was kind of overwhelming.
Views from the hotel room, The Address Marina, Dubai
On my first day out, i visited the Bur Dubai which is the historical part of Dubai located on the west side of Dubai Creek. Was certainly refreshing to be away from the sights of tall buildings.
This is the place where all the souks all located, the gold and the spice souk are the well known ones. Its also the place where you can get bargain for souvenirs and knick knacks. You get all sorts of stuffs, clothing, shoes, bags, jewelleries etc..
It has an very old ancient feel to it and it also the place where you spot lots of Indian immigrants living here. A cruise down the Dubai creek in a Abra is a must.
Next was an adventure to experience the dessert safari, woohuu. I was excited but had no idea what its gonna be like.
It has a half day programme, starts at 4pm and ends at 9 pm. As soon as we arrived at the Dubai Desert Conservation, the driver told us to strap up. The ride on the desert dunes almost had me throwing up whatever i had for lunch. And it got the guys screaming, that was the funny part
Then it was the camel rides. I ain’t doing this one again ever though. The start and the end almost got me falling off the camel!!
Some food and henna….
How my shoes looked at the end of the safari trip……
Later in the evening i went up the Burj Khalifa. It was the movie set for Mission Impossible, as u know.
The viewing deck gives you impressive breath taking views from the top
You can spot these>>>ATM machines for GOLD!!!!! Aint’s that awesome,…only in DUBAI!
Did a day trip through the town of Shajrah with a friend who lived in Dubai…..was really good to be away from sights of monsters buildings for awhile again.
Then, my trip around the city brought me to the famous landmark of DUBAI, the 7 Star hotel Burj Al-Arab. I didn't make it in though as i had very limited time. Ahhh, maybe some other time.
Next, the Atlantis hotel at Palm Jumeirah. This amazing hotel has almost 1500 rooms , with a waterpark called AquaVenture and Dolphin Bay.
The following day, i decided to travel by taxi to Abu Dhabi. It cost me nearly RM 250, for a 1and half hour ride..EXPENSIVE!
I checked in to the Le Meridian Hotel on my colleagues recommendation. Its in the City Centre, next to Abu Dhabi Mall , overlooking the Gulf. The hotel was opened in 1979, and the amazing thing about it, is the fact that they kept the old feel into the interior of the hotel. As you walk into the lobby, you will feel like you are back in time into the 70s. I totally loved it, the door knobs and the switches, you don’t see these anymore. For me it was just brilliant.
I did some shopping here and found some good bargain for handbags, just walking distance from hotel.
You don't get to see a modern looking city here, feels a little old but nice..
Next, took a taxi to the beautiful Sheikh Zayed mosque…..This mosque is one of the largest in the world. It also houses the mausoleum of the late president for whom it is named, a significant and beloved figure in the modern history of the UAE.
Do note its close on Fridays for tourism activities. The dress code is long sleeves shirts and long pants, no shorts and figure hugging clothes allowed. Well... if you did end up there with one, then you have to change to an Abaya and scarf like i had to.
That was one fun tour. You bring me around the country just by reading your blog. I had fun reading it.
